The 250th Anniversary of the founding of Detroit inspired this medal. the obverse memorializes the meeting between French explorer Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac and local Native Americans when he landed at the shores of the future Detroit lakefront. There he founded Fort Pontchartrain as a fur trading post in 1701. The reverse shows today's (read 1951) Detroit skyline, with an inset of Fort Pontchartrain in the lower left.
