Celebrating "Man's Greatest Engineering and Construction Feat," this medal commemorates the completion of the California Water Project. In need of bringing more water to the booming and sprawling southern California cities, the project was engineered to bring water from Northern California. Comprised of 21 dams, 6 canals totaling over 600 miles, 17 pump plants including one that needs to rise almost 200o feet, and 10 power plants, the project is one of the largest state-owned water and power utilities in the world.
The obverse shows the Great Seal of the State of California with the completion date of May 18, 1973. The reverse shows a map of California with the path of the project, and it's beginnings at Oroville, and terminal at Lake Perris.
