The 36th President of the USA, Lyndon B. Johnson was inaugurated on November 22, 1963. Becoming President after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, LBJ continued many of JFK's platform ideals, especially in regards to human and civic rights. He won the 1964 Presidential election amid a strong popularity, but lost in 1968 based on the fallout from the Vietnam War, in which his actions and words did not correspond. He served in the US Naval Reserve from 1940-1964, retiring as a Commander, and being on active duty in 1941 and 1942. Previous to being elected as Vice President under JFK, Johnson also served for many years as a US Representative and Senator form the state of Texas.
