The 35th President of the USA, John F. Kennedy was inaugurated on January 20, 1961. The first Catholic to be elected to the Presidency, Kennedy was also a Lieutenant in the US Navy and commanded a PT boat in the South Pacific. He received the Purple Heart and the Naval Marine Corps Medal for heroism. He become a career politician at the age of 29, serving as a US Representative from Massachusetts from 1946-52, and Senator from Massachusetts from 1952-1960. He relinquished his seat when elected President-Elect in 1960.
