Norman Borlaug, the only agriculturalist to win the Nobel Peace Prize, was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2006. The doctor of plant pathology and genetics developed semi-dwarf, high-yield, disease-resistant wheat varieties that when introduced to Mexico, India, and Pakistan, helped to increase the food stores in these countries dramatically. Called the "Father of the Green Revolution," some estimates credit Borlaug with saving a billion people from starvation with his wheat strains and production techniques.
