Commemorating the 14th Dalai Lama from Tibet, Tenzin Gyatso was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2006 in recognition of his "many enduring and outstanding contributions to peace, non-violence, human rights and religious understanding." Born in 1935, he was given full temporal duties in 1950 at the age of fifteen.
